“The destiny of India is being shaped in its classroom” as has been pointed out by the Education Commission (1964-65) can only be materialised by creating a vast army of potentially committed and dedicated teachers who are the real social architect of the nation. Preparation of teachers with high level quality is the need of the hour along with providing the access of education to one and all irrespective of the level. In this context, realizing the need of providing quality education to the students of the backward region. The Department of Education, Central University of Punjab, earlier known as Centre for Education, was established in 2013 with a mission to enable young aspirants to meet the needs and demands of present techno-scientific era. The department endeavours to achieve excellence by facilitating quality based education and research for students and enabling them to acquire the skills that are required in the present period of globalization. It aims to provide a deep insight of life skills to address the global needs of 21st century. The department is committed to carry out multidisciplinary research in the field of educational theory, curriculum and practice to cater the needs of the digital world.

Facilities

The department of education provides all sorts of modern facilities to its teacher trainees and scholars with a purpose of enabling them to emerge as the efficient techno-savy, value ladened and innovative research oriented graduates and teachers. For this purpose the department of education is having different laboratories like Educational Psychology laboratory, Educational Technology Laboratory, Research Laboratory and Educational Studio.
The Educational Psychology Laboratory:  The educational psychology laboratory of the department of education has been established to enable the teacher trainees to carry out psychological experiments and necessary research activities. The laboratory is enriched with different types of psychological tests & Scales and instruments and Interactive white board. The laboratory is wi-fi enabled and different types of experiments are carried out there by the teacher-trainees and research scholars.
The Educational Technology Laboratory:   The department of education is having an well equipped educational technology laboratory where the teacher-trainees and research scholars of the department practice on different technology enabled pedagogies and conduct their practical classes. The educational technology laboratory is also used for simulated teaching that improves the teaching skills of the teacher-trainees. The laboratory is equipped with modern technological instruments like digital podium, Interactive white board, e-notice board and short throw Projector (STP) which helps the teacher trainees to gain mastery over digital instruments.
Research Laboratory: The research laboratory of the department is well equipped with computers with SPSS software for the purpose of data tabulation and analysis, for the purpose of research related presentation digital podium, Interactive white board and short throw Projector (STP) are also available. All the M. Ed. & M.A. education dissertation and projects are also kept in the laboratory for the use of the research scholars and post graduate students.
Classrooms: The department of education is having the well-equipped classrooms. The classrooms of the department of education are air conditioned, wi-fi enabled and having the facility of interactive white board.
