Water and Wastewater management, Membrane technologies, Solid waste management, Environmental nanotechnology

Research Interests

My research interests would focus on general areas such as membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment, advanced biological processes for wastewater treatment, energy recovery from wastewater, biological nutrient removal, pollutant removal from ground water, environmental microbiology and solid waste management.  Research objectives include (1) understanding the mechanism behind biofouling of membranes (2) to control the biofilm formation using quorum quenching (3) explore the potential of bioelectrochemical systems (BES) such as microbial fuel cells, microbial electrolysis cells in energy recovery from wastewater (4) to study the microbial ecology of different wastewater treatment processes and (5) explore the feasibility of modified membranes (polyelectrolyte multilayer membrane) in the removal of organic, inorganic pollutants and heavy metals from drinking water and ground water.

Another area of research interest is solid waste management focusing on leachate treatment, nitrogen management and phytoremediation of municipal solid waste dumpsites.
