Notification Regarding Reconstitution of Competitive Examination Cell

The Competitive Examination Cell aims to provide a platform to CUP students in preparing for competitive exams. For this the CEC will organise various courses, activities and workshops to facilitate students’ preparation for competitive examinations, especially the following courses, activities and workshops have been dentified:

Courses:

a. CSIR/ UGC- NET (Part A)

b. UPSC (Prelims)

c. ILETS (in collaboration with the Department of English)

Activities:

 Invited lectures from distinguished speakers (IAS/ IPS officers/ NET- JRF/ Civil services  trainers etc.)

Workshops:

1-2 day workshops on specific topics from experts and professionals

UGC- NET (PAPER 1) Preparatory Classes

December 2022- January 2023

The Competitive Examination Cell (CEC) of the Central University of Punjab conducted preparatory classes for Paper 1 of the National Eligibility Test (NET) between 19th December 2022 and 19th January 2023. Students from the final year PG programmes across different departments of the University applied for the classes and underwent training and testing in all the topics of Paper 1. The instructors were 5 Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) holder PhD Research Scholars from different departments. For enrolment in the classes, 472 responses were received, and on a first-come-first-serve basis, 140 students were offered the classes in four batches. The following are the details of the instructors and their topics:

The students were trained in question patterns, study techniques, and self-assessments. They were also given important tips by the instructors. Tests, quizzes and assignments were conducted, along with sharing study plans. The end-of-the-course anonymous student feedback conducted was positive, with recommendations for further improvement. The second batch for the course is scheduled to start in March 2023

Special lecture on "UPSC expectations from Civil Service Aspirants"

The Competitive Examination Cell and NSS Cell of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB), hosted a special lecture on "UPSC expectations from Civil Service Aspirants on March 21, 2022. The invited speaker of this programme was Ms. Priyanka Das, IAS (2009 Batch), Managing Director, National Health Mission, Madhya Pradesh. Around 250 students and research scholars from different departments of the university attended this  programme.

While addressing the participants, Ms. Priyanka Das emphasized that aspirants should be clear about their  objective for appearing in UPSC CSE as they need to mention it before the interview panel. She pointed out that to qualify a UPSC Civil Service Examination, aspirants must pass the three different levels UPSC Prelims, UPSC Mains and UPSC Interview where they have to demonstrate their skills related to comprehension of current affairs and aptitude within the stipulated time, ability to present knowledge in a clear and coherent manner; and intellectual qualities. She advised the UPSC CSE aspirants to prepare diligently, to devote their effort to three different levels of UPSC preparation in the ratio of 10:70:20, and to avoid wasting a UPSC Exam attempt without preparation.

The lecture session was followed with a Q & A session in which Ms. Priyanka Das provided insightful answers related to the participants' questions on the topics of important sources of current affairs, schedule for preparation, role of the newspaper in UPSC preparation.
